		<description><![CDATA[The government is quite correct - it does not provide &#039;subsidies to fossil fuels&#039;.   A lower rate of VAT on household energy supplies might well be considered a consumption subsidy (if you accept the OECD view) although not one that discriminates in favour of fossil fuel use specifically.  Oil and gas production is in fact very heavily taxed, and the use of fossil fuels for power generation is subject to the EU Emission Trading Scheme and UK-only Carbon Price Floor.  Consumers already foot the bill for these measures in addition to increasingly expensive renewable subsidies.  It beggars belief that any government intent on re-election would consider adding to this unpopular burden.]]></description>
