Ingenious-backed company offers on-site power to beat rising ‘brownout’ fears

Argonaut Power and Powerstar have announced plans to provide fully-funded battery storage and on-site renewable generation for commercial and industrial customers.

The aim is to enable customers to decrease their bills through the reduction of grid charges, to improve business system resilience through uninterrupted power supply and to reduce their carbon footprint by installing on-site renewable generation.

Roberto Castiglioni, senior investment director at Ingenious Infrastructure, the main backer of the storage platform, and managing director at Argonaut Power, said: “With the number of brownouts and blackouts increasing and energy costs continuing to rise, it is to be expected that commercial and industrial customers are exploring new avenues to become more competitive, especially in light of the current political environment.” Th company said instances of blackouts or brownouts grew 46% in 2016 compared to the number of occurrences in 2015.

Powerstar manufactures behind-the-meter (BtM) energy storage solutions known as Powerstar VIRTUE with UPS technology, which it says delivers benefits beyond a traditional energy storage solution.

    Hi Alf,

Centrica did a survey of 301 businesses and found that 81% had suffered at least one power failure in the past 12 months.

I don’t know about the 46% but this would not be a surprise given the disruptions that businesses in the South East have been suffering.

There was a growth in blackouts and brownouts in the UK in 2016 by 46% – really? Why have I not heard of this before? Where does this nonsense come from and why is it being printed in a seemingly reliable media outlet?
