EDF has announced plans to extend the life of its Dungeness nuclear power plant by ten years. The 1050MW twin-unit station is undergoing a £150 million upgrade and the extension, which will mean the plant can operate until 2018, has been approved by the Office of Nuclear Regulation.
EDF said the extension means its seven AGR stations – the others are Heysham A and B, Hunterston , Hinkley Point B, Hartlepool and Torness - will still be in operation in 2023, the earliest date when a new plant, Hinkley Point C, could begin operation.
