Electric vehicles will never provide regular grid storage services, according to Erik Fairbairn, chief executive of Pod Point, which supplies and runs electric vehicle charging points.
Fairbairn said the barrier was that batteries had limited charge and discharge cycles, so the extra cost in battery life would make it unlikely that vehicle to grid services would be taken up. “Can we persuade a customer to pay £2,000 extra to be ‘vehicle to grid’? Can we persuade car manufacturers or utilities?”
