Margins are on a knife edge for gas-fired generation in the market at the moment, but some investors believe there will money to be made in a few years’ time. Calon Energy is a new name, but chief executive Kevin McCullough told Janet Wood the company is in GB gas generation for the long term
Calon Energy is a new name in UK power but it is led by a well-known face: Kevin McCullough, an energy industry lifer who was most recently with RWE Npower and then UK Coal. He is on familiar ground with Calon’s fleet, which comprises three fairly recent gas turbine plants that have been brought together in an investment vehicle led by Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (Mira). Mira acquired the three plants over the past couple of years, running them up to now as MPF Operations.
