Field’s two 50MW/100MWh batteries to pick up wind excess north of B6 boundary

Battery developer Field has announced that construction has started at its Holmston site and construction is due to begin at Drum Farm later this year.
Clarke Energy began construction at Holmston in South Ayrshire this summer and it is expected to be complete in the first half of 2026. Powersystems will begin construction at Drum Farm on the outskirts of Keith in early autumn with completion due towards the end of 2026. Envision Energy is the battery storage system supplier for both sites.
The two sites are both 50MW/100MWh two-hour installations that are north of the heavily constrained B6 transmission boundary between England and Scotland.
Field has funded the two sites with a £42 million senior non-recourse loan with Rabobank and ING. Once operational, the sites will be optimised using Gaia, Field’s in-house flexibility platform, in wholesale and balancing markets.
