Mongoose Energy contracts BSR to manage 50MW community solar portfolio

BSR has signed a deal with Mongoose Energy to manage a 50MW portfolio of 14 solar parks, the companies announced today.

The five-year agreement covers 14 community-owned solar parks managed by Mongoose Energy. Once complete, BSR’s will manage 586MW solar portfolio across 64 sites.

Dan Kingscote, performance and operations manager, Mongoose Energy said: “It is vital for Mongoose and our clients to get the highest calibre O&M available, not simply the cheapest. BSR demonstrated throughout the tender that they understand our clients’ values and operate to the highest health and safety standards. O&M is a technically complex and time-consuming activity. To do it properly requires a well-resourced and experienced contractor to both manage the site and support in optimising asset performance.”

Matthew Harnack, BSR’s O&M director, added: “We have a tried and tested, collaborative approach to community solar O&M, which means we are confident in our ability to effectively respond to the communities’ needs and work with them to deliver positive outcomes.”

BSR will manage nearly half (46%) of community energy capacity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, once these 14 sites are on boarded. The company also holds the O&M contract for two community energy projects at Westmill, near Watchfield, Oxfordshire, and Wedmore, Somerset.

Mongoose Energy selected BSR following a competitive tender process, including two submission stages and assessment by Mongoose’s community group board members.

Mongoose Energy was set up to increase community ownership and control of energy generation.  The company has so far raised over £100 million for the 12 community groups with which it works across the country.
