Capacity auction will seek 46.3GW for 2022/23, 4.6GW for 2019/20

The Capacity Market auction this year will source 46,300MW of capacity for delivery in 2022/23, energy minister Claire Perry has decided.

National Grid’s analysis resulted in a total capacity target for the delivery year of 46,700MW. The minister set aside 400MW.

The T-1 auction this year, for delivery in 2019/20, will be seeking 4,600MW. 

Meanwhile National Grid as the delivery body has set out the Capacity Market auction timetable:

Prequalification submissions window of 8 weeks: 23 July to 14 September

Prequalification assessments: 17 September to 26 October

Tier 1 disputes: 29 October to 2 November

T-1 2019/20 Auction: 29 January

T-4 2022/23 Auction: 5 February
