Shell promises its faster EV charger will be one of hundreds on retail sites

Shell has claimed the UK’s first 150kW electric vehicle charger on a forecourt, at a Shell/Waitrose site in Battersea, London. The new charger is a part of Shell Recharge, Shell’s on-forecourt electric vehicle charging service.

The 150kW charger allow drover to charge in a third of the time taken by existing 50kW rapid chargers, which take up to 30 minutes. Shell says it plans  to install hundreds more of both types of charge posts on retail sites across the UK.

Drivers will be able to pay using a contactless payment card, the NewMotion app/card3 or the SMOOV app. There are no subscription or connection fees.

Shell Recharge is run with Allego who manage the operation of the 50kW and 150kW chargers.  Shell also acquired NewMotion, with which it is installing home and workplace chargers. Shell Energy Retail customers can now get a home charge point installed for a discounted price.

Shell is also planning to install super-fast 350kW charging points across ten European countries.
