ESB takes majority control of So Energy, will use brand in GB

Irish energy company ESB has taken over So Energy after acquiring more than 75% of the GB supplier, which was founded in 2015.

The new company will retain the So Energy brand, adding to it customers of ESB’s GB retail brand ESB Energy GB, which entered the market in entered the GB market in 2018. ESB said that would increase So Energy’s customer base by 35% to 310,000 customers. So Energy customers will see no changes, while ESB Energy domestic energy supply customers will migrate to the So Energy brand.
ESB said the new entity would have “a strong platform to grow and roll out new systems, services and products for customers to help them transition to net-zero living”. Both companies already supply 100% renewable electricity, and So Energy has launched a solar and battery storage solution for customers.

So Energy co-founders Charlie Davies and Simon Oscroft will retain their stakes in the business and continue in the executive team headed by new chief executive Monica Collings, currently managing director of ESB Energy.
