Remaining suppliers hit by £205M bill to cover Renewables Obligation gap

Renewables Obligation (RO) payments have fallen short by £204,786,037.53 in England and Wales and by £13,514,114.20 in Scotland, Ofgem says. There was no shortfall in the Northern Ireland scheme. The shortfall has triggered ‘mutualisation’ and suppliers who met their RO commitments will be required to make quarterly payments to make up the cash, which is paid to renewable energy generators.
The regulator said 37 supplier groups failed to discharge 66 obligations across the three schemes by the initial deadline. Of these, just 12 obligations were met by the late payment deadline of 31 October. The regulator said 25 suppliers who failed to comply are either in administration or have had their licence revoked.
