Gridserve claims a new electric vehicle (EV) charger at its Braintree forecourt will be the fastest public chargepoint in the UK.
The company says that dependent on model and charging capacity the ABB 360kW charger makes will be able to add 100 miles of charge in less than 5 minutes.
It says the charge point is suitable for all EV drivers with two CCS connectors with long cables, contactless payment and easy access for wheelchair users. Its positioning at the site allows for HGVs and cars towing caravans.
Gridserve says that the installation is a trial, and if successful such points could be rolled out to other forecourts. Chief executive Toddington Harper said: “We’ve listened to driver feedback that our towing customers needed additional space to charge without decoupling and this new charger installation has given us the opportunity to provide that charging area at Braintree.”
