AWE’s Aldermaston and Burghfield sites to host solar PV arrays

The Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) is aiming to invest in two large solar PV farms on its sites.
AWE – the organisation that designs, manufactures and decommissions the UK’s nuclear warheads – wants to source two 25-year direct-wire power purchase agreements (PPAs).
At AWE Aldermaston, Berkshire, it wants to install a solar farm of minimum 20MW. It will award a PPA for an estimated 25 year period and anticipated total spend of £46 million.
At AWE Burghfield, between Aldermaston and Reading, AWE wants a 25-year PPA for a solar farm sized at minimum 10MW, with an anticipated total spend of £30 million, subject to contract duration.
AWE has started preliminary market engagement and with expressions of interest to [email protected] by 2 May.
