Amazon CPPA covers more than half of Moray West capacity

Amazon is to buy more of the power produced by Ocean Winds’ Moray West wind farm offshore of Scotland.
It has signed a corporate power purchase agreement (CPPA) with Engie (a joint venture partner in Ocean Winds, with EDP Renewables), increasing its share of to a total of 473MW when the site becomes operational later this year.
Located in the Moray Firth in the north east of Scotland, the 882MW wind farm is currently under construction and will generate power in 2024. Amazon said the CPPA would help it reach its 2030 goal of powering all operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025.
Amazon announced 39 new renewable energy projects across Europe last year, totalling 1GW.
Lindsay McQuade, Director of Energy, EMEA, Amazon Web Services (AWS), said: “Transitioning to carbon-free energy sources is one of the most impactful ways to lower carbon emissions, and is part of our Climate Pledge commitment to reach net zero carbon across our operations by 2040”.
Ocean Winds has a 2025 target of 5-7 GW of projects in operation or construction, and 5-10GW under advanced development.
