Catapult offers Net Zero datasets for local area energy planning

Energy Systems Catapult has launched a range of prepackaged datasets. Covering GB-wide local authorities, Net Zero Data aims to offer low cost, ready-to-use, regularly updated information that will minimise resource overheads. and streamline the design and delivery of local Net Zero projects.
The Catapult’s data bundles draw on 30 years of data modelling expertise provided to local authorities, network operators and renewable technology installers. The Catapult has applied, refined and tested the data sets in real-world scenarios and projects and they are now available standalone.
The datasets are built to match the needs of different types of low carbon projects and support common use cases, such as identifying:
• Buildings suitable for Net Zero retrofit
• Buildings suitable for installing low carbon heat or renewables
• Land with potential for renewables or electric vehicle infrastructure.
The Catapult says the datasets fill the gaps in common open data sources and enable initial feasibility assessments to be made at the individual project level.
Datasets and bundles from Net Zero Data can be visualised using any Geographic Information System (GIS) platform. For local authorities that don’t have this, the Catapult is able to offer cost-effective access to the LAEP+ GIS platform powered by Advanced Infrastructure Technology Ltd (AITL).
Members of UK local authorities and can join the Net Zero Go data best practice event at 9am on 25 January. Register here.
