Worksop gas engines capture carbon dioxide for sale to industry

Rolls-Royce, energy services provider Landmark and carbon dioxide specialist ASCO have commissioned a 10MW gas engine power plant with a carbon capture system.
The CO2 is extracted from the exhaust gases of the mtu gas engines in Worksop in the East Midlands. It is processed, liquefied and sent by tankers for use in the food industry to carbonate beverages such as beer and lemonade. The heat produced by the plants will be used both for carbon capture processes and to supply heat to households in the area.
The plant will capture up to 30,000 tons of CO2 per year.
Landmark Power Holdings Ltd. has developed and will operate the power plant. Rolls-Royce has supplied combined heat and power plants based on mtu Series 4000 L64FNER gas engines and has a ten year maintenance contract. ASCO Carbon Dioxide Ltd. is responsible for the carbon capturing and processing plant. The project is a joint venture with Victory Hill, a specialized investment company for sustainable energy infrastructure.
The Worksop facility is the first project under the FLEXPOWER PLUS™ concept developed by Landmark Power Holdings, which uses containerized solutions for power and heat generation that integrate carbon recovery technologies.
“The captured CO2 is an additional source of revenue and a valuable resource for various industries, including food products, synthetic fuels, sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), and more,” said Ralph Spring, Managing Director of ASCO Carbon Dioxide Ltd.
