Great British Energy funding for NHS now agreed for 34 trusts

The number of NHS trusts across England due to receive funding to install solar panels has reached 34 NHS, according to Great British Energy. The expansion follows government confirmation tha total funding for the scheme had increased to up to £255 million.
With each trust installing panels at a variety of sites, the scheme will include up to 260 NHS sites, GBE said. It will also extend to around 250 schools and around 15 military sites.
The NHS is the single biggest public sector energy user, whose an estimated annual energy bill has almost doubled since 2019, to around £1.34 billion.  Great British Energy said the solar PV installations could see total lifetime energy bill savings for the NHS of up to £325 million.
Energy Minister Michael Shanks said the solar panels could be installed on car park canopies as well as rooftops. 
Chris Gormley, Chief Sustainability Officer, NHS England said the expanded funding would triple NHS solar generation.
