Great British Energy has promised to increase spending on solar energy to £255 million, up from £180 million, and expand the scheme to military land. GBE says a new partnership with the Ministry of Defence will see technologies such as solar panels and micro-wind turbines deployed across a range of military sites, including remote training ground and equipment stations.
The new funding will add 50 schools and over 70 NHS sites to the solar rollout, GBE says.
Bringing the total to around 250 schools, over 270 NHS sites and around 15 military sites.
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband announced plans to close loopholes that give offshore renewable energy workers fewer rights at work than oil and gas workers. This plan will include newly mandated worker representation on boards of publicly owned bodies like Great British Energy.
