Port of Barrow to host UK’s largest floating solar array

Westmorland & Furness Council has granted development consent for a floating solar PV array at the Port of Barrow in Cumbria, Solar Power Portal reports.
At 40MW, the new array will be the UK’s largest floating solar PV project. Currently the largest floating project is a 6.3MW development on the Queen Elizabeth II reservoir west of London.
Port operator Associated British Ports will install the array at the port’s Cavendish Dock, which will be renamed the Barrow EnergyDock project. Modules will be mounted on a fixed-tilt array and will cover around one-third of the dock’s water area. The company said that the PV array would not impede leisure activities at the dock, and would create “potential for future leisure use in the future”.
