Scottish Power to launch IDNO

Ofgem has given Scottish Power permission to launch an independent distribution network operator (IDNO). The electricity distribution licence was awarded to Sphere Energy Connect, which will compete with existing IDNOs to design and build ‘last mile’ connections between new domestic and business properties and the existing electricity network. It can own and operate the resulting network.
The company said Sphere would work with partners including independent connection providers (ICPs), developers and charge point operators (CPOs) as Sphere works to grow the business and expand the team.
Helen Fairlie, Director of ScottishPower’s Sphere Energy Connect said: “Sphere is all about connecting people and powering progress. Part of ScottishPower, Sphere seamlessly blends the agility and innovation of a start up with the strength and reputation of a trusted business.”
Sphere will operate independently of the ScottishPower distribution networks operated through SP Energy Networks and SP Electricity North West.
