Ovo has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Cambridgeshire County Council’s North Angle Solar Farm – the largest solar farm in Cambridgeshire.
The news comes two years after Ovo decided to stop buying renewable energy that allow suppliers to claim their energy is green, without necessarily buying directly from renewable sources.
Susie Leppard, Head of Renewables at OVO, said: “Our new partnership with Cambridgeshire County Council’s North Angle Solar Farm supports new solar generation and we believe this technology has a key role to play in accelerating the UK towards a fossil fuel free energy system.”
Cllr Ros Hathorn, Chair of the Environment and Green Investment Committee at Cambridgeshire County Council, said: “As part of our efforts to work towards net zero, we have developed ambitious solar energy projects that are generating renewable electricity on buildings and land across Cambridgeshire. Working with Ovo in the North Angle Solar Farm’s first year of operation has helped to secure a vital revenue stream that will support our front-line services.”
