New wind turbines plus battery planned for Dorenell

Dorenell wind farm could be expanded with nearly 500MW of new capacity and a batter storage facility, after Galileo Empower submitted a planning application.
The proposal is for a 476MW wind farm with 67 turbines between 149.9m and 250m high, on the Cabrach and Glenfiddich Estate 10km south of Dufftown, and a battery.
The project has undergone two rounds of public consultation events over the course of 2024 and 2025, and the final proposals have sought to incorporate feedback from local people.
Galileo have committed to utilise local supply chains wherever possible to maximise local benefit, in addition to their commitment to meet the Scottish Government’s recommended £5,000 per annum in community benefit per MW of installed capacity.
The project team is also maintaining a dialogue with local people, facilitated by Local Energy Scotland, on potential options for community part ownership of the project.
