EDF says it is set to make use of Kraken AI-powered operating system to offer lower-cost responsive tariffs that could allow flexible customers to cut their bills.
Using Kraken, EDF said it can automatically shift the energy use of domestic electric vehicles, solar panels, home batteries and heat pumps, if customers opt in to flexibility. This will help to cut household costs by using power when it is cheapest. It say that for the average EV driver, this flexibility can deliver hundreds of pounds in savings a year, compared with standard home charging, while also lowering emissions and supporting grid stability.
Already EDF has more than 1,000 low-carbon devices connected, totalling 7MW of flexible capacity. This new phase builds on EDF’s successful move to Kraken in 2020, when 7.9 million meter points were transferred from 17 legacy systems.
