New Dumfries factory to produce domestic batteries with social housing users in mind

Kight Powerhubs has announced plans for a domestic battery assembly plant in Dumfries.
The Dumfries facility is claimed to be the first home energy storage factory in Scotland and will serve as the primary assembly plant for the Kight Powerhub. The 10kWh AI-enabled battery storage system has been designed with feedback from South of Scotland Registered Social Landlords and draws on Formula One engineering expertise.
The company said its Powerhub units installed in social housing properties in the south of Scotland in 2025 have demonstrated the system’s ability to deliver improvements in quality of life for tenants.
Lawrence Fagg, Founder of Kight Powerhubs, said Dumfries would see the technology rolled out at scale, adding “Building our assembly plant here, in the south of Scotland where we have worked so well with SOSE, means the region that inspired this technology will now lead its manufacture and help deliver it to social housing tenants across the country.”
John Swinney, First Minister of Scotland, said: “Battery technology like this is central to securing Scotland’s energy future – it helps store clean power, reduces our dependence on volatile fossil fuel markets, and supports the transition to net zero in a way that genuinely includes communities rather than leaving them behind.”
