Community generator Mongoose plans to become an energy supplier

Community energy company Mongoose has announced plans to start an energy supply business, planned to launch before the end of the year.

The supply business will be run in partnership with locally-run community benefit energy companies across the UK.

“We see this as the future for the UK, with profits being retained within the community to re-invest in socially and environmentally beneficial projects that meet community needs,” said Peter Capener, chair of Bath and West Community Energy, which founded Mongoose in 2015.

The new supply business will source its electricity from renewable sources. Mongoose’s energy generation business currently has 34MW of capacity under management services.

The launch comes soon after Liverpool city council announced it was looking for a partner to launch an energy company.
