SSE to offer flexibility services to customers using Origami Energy platform

SSE has selected Origami Energy to support SSE’s delivery of new flexibility services to its industrial and commercial customers.

SSE will offer real-time, flexible energy management services through Origami Energy’s technology platform, to help customers unlock the increasingly valuable flexibility they have in their consumption and generation of electricity. SSE’s Virtual Power Plant (SSE VPP) knits together all types of distributed energy resources including demand side response, storage, combined heat and power, generation and electric vehicles to offer capacity and flexibility to different markets.

The collaboration with Origami Energy will enable industrial and commercial customers to access new revenue streams in the flexibility market by taking a more flexible approach to their energy use. SSE also plans to operate some of its own embedded generation assets through the platform.

Finlay McCutcheon, director of SSE Business Energy said, “Flexibility is an increasingly valuable part of the GB electricity market and SSE is delighted to be working with Origami Energy as we deliver our new SSE VPP product. We believe Origami Energy’s technology is market leading and will help us provide significant value to our customers.”

Peter Bance, chief executive of Origami Energy, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with SSE. This major deal further validates the new opportunities that our real-time energy marketplace solutions offer to electricity suppliers, traders and industrial and commercial companies. Using our powerful technology platform, SSE will be enabled to deliver more valuable customer propositions, unlocking value for large numbers of owners and operators of dispatchable generation, battery storage and flexible loads.”
